For those of you who are looking to get your Sony ICD-PX720 voice recorder working under Windows 7 or above, no doubt you have probably stumbled upon this post.
Create a new folder SonyTemp in the C: drive. Download the file SonyRecorderDriver.exe (2,239 KB) into the folder created in Step 2. Note: This driver also works with Chinese version of Windows 2000 Professional. Upon completion of the download, please check the size of the file as follows: Choose View – Details in Windows Explorer. Remove and reinstall the device drivers. If the issue remains, try installing the USB driver again. NOTE: It may also be necessary to reinstall any software that may have been supplied with the IC recorder. The problem: Sony have replaced the original software that came with these devices with an newer software program, however, the new software neither works with the recorder, nor does it contain the drivers necessary to use the device on Window 7, 8 or 10.
Find firmware updates, drivers and software downloads for ICD-PX720. The IC recorder does not turn on or pressing any button does not work. The IC recorder does not turn off. The IC recorder automatically turns off. The battery life of the IC recorder is short. You cannot charge the battery by connecting the IC recorder to your computer.
The solution: After several hours of searching, I came across this post on the Microsoft forums from another frustrated owner. A responder to that post links to a installer for the original software which both supports the device AND includes the all-important drivers. As the download is still hosted on the Sony servers, there’s a good chance that the link may not work forever, and will eventually be taken down given that Sony do not want to support the older software any more.
